Dear Suzanne,

Are people who are looking for work experience with publishing companies allowed to participate as well? (I am graduating next in 2013 but am currently on my year abroad)

Kind regards,

Grace

Proof, if it were needed, that you provide a valuable and much needed service. We live in uncertain times in an industry constantly changing. I can attest to how much you helped and supported me when I was planning my next move and I really couldn't have done it without you. Long may you continue.

A well deserved award. I remember how supportive you were when we went through all that drama with our jobs. I had only known you for a short time but you were happy to offer your advice.

This couldn't have been given to someone more deserving. I have been given some great advice by you in the past, and tough I am still trying to find focus in publishing I feel some comfort knowing that this site is here. Congratulations.

You have helped me so much and provided support when I really needed it. After being made redundant you told me to keep the faith and sure enough, with some CV tweaking, I got a new job. You also gave me good advice when I felt bullied in the workplace. You are a star and this award is well deserved. Thank you for everything Suzanne!

I have yet to have the honour of being an official member of Women in Publishing, though I am a part of the organisation's LinkedIn group. Joining is at the top of my agenda for the new year. What I think is so wonderful (and important) about organisations such as this is that those of us in publishing often sacrifice a lot to be in the industry. Let's face it, it's not a lucrative career for most. As a PR specialist I could make twice as much consulting with any of the industry. We love books, we believe in the publishing industry despite its numerous faults, and we're committed to helping authors navigate what can be a rocky and dangerous road on their journey to publish and market their books. It's really less a career and more a vocation in my opinion.

Organisations like WIP validate that the hardwork of many does not go unnoticed and is appreciated and applauded. It also brings women in the industry together in a supportive community. I know that, for me, it's wonderful to see an organisation include so many women whose contribution and accomplishments I respect so much. And on an equally personal note, it thrills me to see you be honoured for your tireless efforts for the industry and those who work in it. In the past year you've gone from mere "network connection" to real friend, and knowing the struggles that you deal with every day, and that you don't allow them to keep you from taking an active role and being a passionate voice in the industry, makes me admire and respect you even more.
