The full report is now on sale.

Respondents completed an online form, between September and December 2013. The form was advertised to all those registered with bookcareers.com and the link circulated widely through all trade associations and across social media.

We received a total of 901 valid responses.

We really must thank everyone who responded and contributed to this data –
without your help and trust in us this survey would not be possible.

* 81.8% of respondents were female, 18.2% were male

*In 2008 82.9% of respondents were female, 17.1% male
*In 2004  78%     of respondents were female, 22% male

AVERAGE SALARIES
* The average overall salary was £28,661 up 13.2% on 2008 (£24,871).
This is the average of all full-time respondents earning between £10,000 and £80,001 p.a.

* The average starting salary is calculated on those who are 19-23 years old, who have been in the industry for less than a year and in their  current job for less than a year.

* The average starting salary was £17,775 up 2.7% on 2008 (£17,300)

There is now a huge disparity between entry level pay and our salary average pay.
In 2008 the percentage difference was 43.8%.  It has now risen to 61.2%.
*80.2% of the respondents are 35 years of age or younger,
* In 2008 82.8% of all respondents were under the age of 35

DIVERSITY
*93.7% of all respondents classed themselves as White, British.  This is up 3% from 90.7% in 2008.
Although there have been major campaigns by organisations like Equip and Creative Access, we are still failing heavily on diversity.

AVERAGE MALE V FEMALE SALARIES
*Men are still being paid more than women. In 2013 this was 16%, up slightly from 15.4% in 2008, but improved on 18.1% in 2004.
For an industry where 81.8% of respondents were women, this continues to be disappointing..
