BIC: Digital Book Production Explained

This course looks at the different digital print technologies and their applications, giving you a thorough understanding of the pros and cons of each and helping you to select the right method for your projects in the future.
BIC’s courses focus on the practical application of knowledge. During the course you will spend time in the press-room and bindery, seeing first hand how books are produced on digital presses.
All of BIC’s courses are designed in conjunction with a group of Production Directors from leading houses so that they focus on what you need to know. Each course contains a formal assessment recognised by many of the UK’s publishing houses.
This course will provide you with an overview of the different technologies available and how to select the right one for your project. You will learn:
- What is meant by short run printing?
- How the economics of digital print works and publishing models?
- How orders are generated and processed (EDI, ASR, OLO)
- What you need to consider when creating files for digital print production
- The different print technologies that are used to put “ink” on paper
- The pros and cons of each of the different methods
- What paper stocks are available for digital printing and considerations
- What finishing and binding options are available for short run title
- What other opportunities the technology makes available e.g. personalisation, customisation, printing closer to market
