BIC: An Introduction to Colour Printing

08/06/2017

£180

Focusing on the print and bind process alongside colour theory and paper, this is a great introduction to colour book production. BIC’s courses focus on the practical application of knowledge. During the course you will spend time in the press-room and bindery, seeing first hand how books are produced and learning how to use this knowledge in your day-to-day role.

All of BIC’s courses are designed in conjunction with a group of Production Directors from leading houses so that they focus on what you need to know. Each course contains a formal assessment recognised by many of the UK’s publishing houses.

The course will provide you with the tools to be proactive in your role, better express your requirements and solve or even prevent problems efficiently.

You will learn:

  • The different print process available and how to pick the right one for your book
  • How colour is printed
  • How an image gets to the page, including conversion to CMYK, screens and ink density
  • How to chose the right proof for your book
  • How to assess paper and chose the right one for your book
  • What impact paper can have on your book
  • How a litho press is made ready and how to press pass a book
  • The different kinds of binding available
  • What finishes are available and how are they applied
  • How a print price is constructed and how to request a quote
  • How to produce co-editions
  • What can go wrong at each stage, how to recognise it and what you can do to prevent it.
