The Galley Club meeting on Tuesday, 4 February 2020; 6:30pm
Venue: The Water Rats, Grays Inn Road, Kings Cross
Adam Douglas is a rare bookseller at Peter Harrington Ltd, the leading London firm. A bookseller for over thirty years, he is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association and chair of the ABA Educational Trust, a charity promoting knowledge of the book. He has also taught an MA course in screenwriting and is the author of The Beast Within, a cultural study of the werewolf myth. He writes on bookish matters for the Literary Review.
Some rare books can be worth hundreds of thousands. As a rare bookseller, Adam has learned the hard way how to be an expert in detecting fakes and forgeries. He shares his expertise, showing how to tell when that amazing inscription in your prized first edition is just too good to be true, and how it has become increasingly possible to create a fake book.
