With all the crisis on the high street, you have to wonder about W H Smith. Before Christmas I spent £33 on stationery in my local WHS. In return I was given a £10 gift card, with no spending restrictions, a £5 timed voucher if I spent £20 on books (in addition to the price cuts on the books), and a free Preston the Penguin, which had an original retail price of £9.99, marked down to £2.99. As I went to pay I asked the cashier if I also got shares in the company, as they were giving so much away, but sadly not.
